Crazy Pants!!!!

Well, here is the latest vlog. Now, just a little FYI. I am not crazy about shopping or clothes, however, as a performer I have to constantly update my wardrobe for stage. I actually do a lot of thrift store shopping because I can usually find some pretty cool, retro clothes. And as you all know I am very strapped for money. So here I am LOL :)

City of Lights….

“The joy of brightening other lives, bearing each others’ burdens, easing other’s loads and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas.” [W. C. Jones]

I love the Christmas lights. There are so many beautiful colors, no longer just the red, green, blue and yellow. There are purple, pink and a huge array of vivid twinkling colors. We walked down to Indian creek with Rosie last night to enjoy the beautiful lights and I thought I would share out city’s version of Christmas.

With that I leave you with Journey….

Sometimes it’s the Simple Things

Sometimes it’s the Simple Things

To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter… to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird’s nest or a wildflower in spring – these are some of the rewards of the simple life.  ~John Burroughs

It was sooooo hot yesterday! When we were playing our gig, it must have been over 100 even under the canopy we were playing under. I felt like we were standing at the gates of hell and, like Dante‘s gates of hell, the words “Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here”were imprinted on the top of the gates. Virgil was waving me to come forth and journey, but who in their right mind would choose to go 9 levels deeper when you can already feel the heat at the entrance! Yes, it was that hot! The best parts of my day were the cover I did of Adele’sMake you Feel My Love” and a few others. Some other highlights: When I took breaks I would go down to Indian Creek and soak my feet and the water was so cool and refreshing. Before the gig started Kira and I wandered over to Pet Haven, a thrift store, looking for scarves to tie onto my tambourine. I found the scarves but decided to buy a purse that was exactly the style I have been looking for to carry my wallet, my kindle and other miscellaneous things. The color is a little much for me, but hell, for $3.50 who can complain, especially when you only have $5 on you? I also found an unusual little broken brooch for 50 cents, the pin on the back is missing but it has all these cool music symbols on it. Hey, if the shoe fits, right? And, the finale,  a nice night ride on our mountain bikes down by the river with flashlight bungied to our handlebars. Life is good!

The Beat Doesn’t Go On!

“YOU COULD LOCK the Gasman in a padded cell with some dental floss and a bowl of Jell-O, and he’d find a way to make something to explode.” ― James PattersonMax

I have come to hate playing music with Michael because he makes me feel stupid. He acts so sure of himself on the guitar and every time I pick it up I feel lost and  I feel like I can’t even begin to know the first thing about what I am doing. He plays lead and I play rhythm, but apparently my idea of rhythm is more stupid than his….it sucks to be me!

I Had an Itch I Just Had to Scratch

I Had an Itch I Just Had to Scratch

My garden does not whet the appetite; it satisfies it. It does not provoke thirst through heedless indulgence, but slakes it by proffering its natural remedy. Amid such pleasures as these have I grown old.  Epicurus

I know, I know. I planted a few days too early. I just couldn’t stand it. I just had to get out, dig up the soil and get the seeds in the ground, the itch was killing me. It’s done now. Everything is planted except for the plants I grew indoors, there’s no turning back now. It’s all good, we are expecting frost the next couple of mornings, but I am way ahead of the game. I cut plastic to fit each of my garden spots and if the seeds should happen to fail I have more of each to replant. I couldn’t help myself. Haven’t you ever had that itch and you just had to scratch it. Thankfully I had some help and I now have a garden spot in my back yard perfect for my peppers, eggplant, okra and radishes. I’m so excited about my garden this year. I am going to spend the summer planning recipes for canning. I also have the intention this year of teaching myself how to make homemade Louisiana Gumbo. A garden isn’t just about the work and the garden itself, it’s all about the plans you have lain for your produce after the work is done in the ground. Then the real creative part comes into play as to what you are going to do with your abundance of love and care. That’s the real exciting part, the end result of all your hard work and TLC.

Mary Mary Quite Contrary…

In my garden there is a large place for sentiment.  My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams.  The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.  ~Abram L. Urban

I planted my seeds for some plants indoors and they are coming up beautifully. I am really loving watching them pop their green heads out of the dark brown richness of the soil. I am so anxious for May 15th to come so that I can mover them outdoors. The joy of getting your hands into the warm soil and running it through your fingers, seeing the dirt on your hands and under your fingernails and then watching the fruits of your labors grow is a happiness that is indescribable!

A Garden brings a joy and awareness of life and new growth and is representative of positive forces in nature working to produce positive effects.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather

“A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.” –Chinese Proverb

We just built a bird feeder a couple of weeks ago out of some materials we had lying around, a flat whisker basket and some suede ties that I had cut off a set of boots this winter. After riding down to get a big bag of birdseed I have spent hours and hours just watching the different birds that come to our little feeder. There are warblers, finches, red winged blackbirds, robins and doves that I have seen so far. They are such a joy to watch with their funny little mannerisms and beautiful songs that fill my yard everyday. It is peaceful and a joy to my heart.

I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. David Herbert Lawrence

For the Love of a Garden

For the Love of a Garden

It is good to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.  ~James Douglas,Down Shoe Lane

Today, with the rising of the sun, my thoughts are on my garden, on warm sunny days, on the back breaking enjoyment of growing my own produce. I can hardly wait for spring to really be here. I am looking forward to planning out my garden layout, buying the seeds and plants and getting down to the nitty gritty job of breaking the earth, feeling the dirt on my hands and finger tips and just breathing the air. The enjoyment of raising a garden of your own has such a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. I love to watch the seeds grow as they push through the earth with their new green shoots reaching for the kiss from the sun. Oh the joy of a garden!

Back To School

“If you get up one more time than you fall, you will make it through.” -Chinese Proverb

I am finally making an effort to return to college after a long hiatus. It feels really good to me to finally be getting back to the books to finish a degree that I should have had a long time ago. Being back in school I am reminded of the work that is involved and I am reminded of how hard I have to work. I have done very well in school in the past and now I only hope that I haven’t been away from academia so long that I have forgotten how to study, how to write proper papers and how to put the extra effort out there. Sometimes it feels a little overwhelming! I am reminded of the time I went tubing behind a boat and nearly drowned, but I finally let go of the inner tube and was alright. School can be a little like that, I just need to relax and let go a little and it will come to me.

The Vulnerability of a Night Flower

The Vulnerability of a Night Flower

I understand now that the vulnerability I’ve always felt is the greatest strength a person can have. You can’t experience life without feeling life. What I’ve learned is that being vulnerable to somebody you love is not a weakness, it’s a strength.
Elisabeth Shue

At some point in our lives we are all vulnerable, it doesn’t matter who you are. We become vulnerable to those around us the minute we open up our heart to them. The strength really lies in not closing up like a flower closes it’s petals at night, but leaving yourself open to even the darkest of nights. For if you don’t leave yourself open to the night how can you ever expect to catch the beauty of a moonbeam as it gently caresses your petals and showers moonlight on your stigma. The moonbeams leave dew kisses for you to savor in the mornings rising sun.

My Soulmate

My Soulmate

A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise. ~Richard Bach

Never in my wildest expectations did I ever think I would meet you or find you. It was serendipity. It was one posting that brought you into my life, one strange set of circumstances that drew us together. In the time I have gotten to know you I have never felt more close or more drawn to anyone like you before, because there is no one like you! You are unique and you fit me like a glove. I have told you this many times before and I hope you only realize that you mean the world to me. You are my soul-mate through and through!

Understanding Duality

Understanding Duality

“Light is meaningful only in relation to darkness, and truth presupposes error. It is these mingled opposites which people our life, which make it pungent, intoxicating. We only exist in terms of this conflict, in the zone where black and white clash.”  Louis Aragon

Whether we know it or not we all have dual natures, a darkness that meets the light. Most people are afraid to explore the darker side of their duality, the darker side of their nature. The fear of what they may find if they looked really deep into that dark pit keeps them rooted in ignorance of the truth within them. It takes a strong person to face their darkest fears, and those darkest of fears are the things which they desire that are not considered “normal” by societies moral standards. They fear the carnal desires that may live deep in their psyches, down in the trenches, pushed down and controlled. What of the serial killer? Is this the person who has examined his duality and acted on those desires?…It begs the question. However, if you truly want to know who you are you must explore those deep dark caverns to know with absolute certainty what and who you are in even your darkest fear and desire.
