No Resolutions Only Evolution’s…

No Resolutions Only Evolution’s…

A woman has many faces as she goes through her life. It’s like we need more than one hair-do. We have many, many changes in the evolution of our lives. We have, we learn, and we grow; we view life differently, and life views us differently.
Sharon Stone

This year I am making no resolutions! Instead I am making evolution’s.  I have plans to evolve into a better musician, a better human being, a kinder and gentler person. I want to evolve as a writer and artist. Last year at this time my future looked very bleak indeed. This year I have high hopes! We have things this year that we didn’t have last year. This year we have a full 5 piece band that is working. This year I have a job as a free-lance writer for a company that actually pays me what I am worth. This year we also have a small acoustic side project going on. This year the only thing missing is Mike finding a good day job that still allows him the freedom to keep pursuing music, I know it will happen with a little faith and good karma. This year I am changing my stage appearance. Over the years it went from heavy black to pinstripe outfits to hippie. This year I don’t know what I am shooting for, I guess you will have to wait to see. This year I promise to keep my anger in check. I kind of lost my mind at the end of this year and spewed a bunch of crap that I shouldn’t have, and for that I am sorry. I am human, and I make mistakes. This year I also promise to forgive myself. This is the year of the sublime evolution! Happy New Year to all my friends and family, I love each and everyone of you for all your love and support and only hope I can give back 1/10th of what you all have given to me! With that I leave you with Fleetwood Mac, enjoy! 🙂

Happy New Year! Happy 1 Year Anniversary to my Buddha Blog!

Happy New Year! Happy 1 Year Anniversary to my Buddha Blog!

Let our New Year’s resolution be this: we will be there for one another as fellow members of humanity, in the finest sense of the word. Goran Persson

Happy New Year to all of my wonderful, beautiful friends here at WordPress!!! I love each of you. Everyday, the very best part of my day is to get up with my coffee and read your blogs. Each and everyday that you have posted you have let me into your hearts and homes for a brief moment in time and it has been such a joy. I don’t have enough room to mention every single one of you, but you know how you are, I have liked your words and thoughts and have even shared some of my thoughts with each of you. There have been happy times and, yes, there have been tears. There have been times that I have been driven to anger and times I have been driven to laughter, and through it all you have all been there at my side, and shared with me when I was wrong. For that I love each and everyone of you! Have a beautiful 2013 and I hope to share more with you as the next year rolls by. I will try to post a vlog later for you if I have time!

Music Passion December…Ar Hyd y Nos

Music Passion December…Ar Hyd y Nos

Dolly at all about lemon has the theme of Christmas for December. Although the song I picked doesn’t actually say Christmas in it it is an old folk Welsh tune that has been popularized around Christmas time. In Welsh it is called Ar Hyd y Nos, which translates to “All Through the Night” in English and I thought I would share it with you. It was one of the songs I sang at The Celtic Festival this last summer. So without further ado….

City of Lights….

City of Lights….

“The joy of brightening other lives, bearing each others’ burdens, easing other’s loads and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts becomes for us the magic of Christmas.” [W. C. Jones]

I love the Christmas lights. There are so many beautiful colors, no longer just the red, green, blue and yellow. There are purple, pink and a huge array of vivid twinkling colors. We walked down to Indian creek with Rosie last night to enjoy the beautiful lights and I thought I would share out city’s version of Christmas.

With that I leave you with Journey….

Sometimes people carry to such perfection the mask they have assumed that in due course they actually become the person they seem. W. Somerset Maugham

I love Halloween and when we got booked to play New Year’s Eve I thought it would be fun to make it into a masquerade party. I have never actually been to a masquerade ball but I thought it would be a lot of fun and mysterious since no one knows who anyone else is. We do the unveiling at midnight. It is mysterious, alluring and romantic to me. This is going to be the best New Year’s ever for me! Well I am off to the craft store to get my supplies, watch me go now! With that I leave you with one of my favorite all time movies and the masquerade ball scene…

Halloween, A Time to Be Anything You Want….

Halloween, A Time to Be Anything You Want….

‘Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.
~William Shakespeare

I love Halloween, it has always been one of my favorite holidays ever! It’s the one time of year you can dress up as anything and be anything you like for a few hours. I have no idea how many different costumes I have donned in 42 years, but I know that barring being sick I have dressed up faithfully every year. I have been a butterfly, a witch, Rambimbo (a female Rambo), an angel/devil, the Grim Reaper, a hippy and so many more that I can’t even remember. I think my favorite costume of all time was when I dressed as the Reaper, it was really scary because I wore a ski mask and blackened in any skin that was showing and no one could see my face at all. Halloween is the one time of year that children and adults alike are allowed to let their imaginations go wild and they get sweet treats for it. It’s a fun night for friends, music, sweets and fun, fun, fun! For an update on the band’s Halloween party last night go to EZ Street a Day in the Life for a full update.

With that I am leaving you with my second of all time favorite Halloween songs, “Dirty Creature” by Split Enz, Happy Halloween everyone! 🙂

A Letter to My Mother on Mother’s Day

A Letter to My Mother on Mother’s Day

My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it. Mark Twain

I realize that I was a very spirited child from the get go, even before I was born. You love to tell friends how I was supposed to be born in December but refused to come out of the womb until February. The fact of the matter is I must have liked it in there. It takes a special kind of strength to deal with my eccentricities, my hippy Bohemian ways, my artistic temper tantrums, my drunken revelries and all that has gone along with being my mom. You have always supported my artistic temperament and before you got sick I have cherished the memories of all my gigs that you have gone to and supported me in just by your presence alone. I’m sure you must be my #1 fan. I am fortunate to have a mother that has always supported me in whatever “new” endeavor I have chosen to take on….I love you Mom…Happy Mother’s Day! Your Daughter, Jaz

International St. Patrick’s Day

International St. Patrick’s Day

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
~Irish Blessing

St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t just have to be about Ireland. My husband is Irish and I am Welsh, my family comes from Cowbridge, Glamorganshire, Wales. So every year I fix traditional corned beef and cabbage but for my side of the family I fix a dish called poten ben fedi. It’s a potato and leek dish that is delicious. St. Patrick’s Day is such a fun holiday and we can thank good old St. Patrick for driving the snakes out of Ireland for this holiday which has become very international. Have fun and celebrate this St. Patrick’s Day and think outside of the Irish box, so to speak!

Expressions of Love

Expressions of Love

Life without love is like a tree without blossom and fruit. – Kahlil Gibran

It is not enough just to feel that you have love or are loved. Without that expression of love being shown, whether it be in words, displays of affection or just simply saying those “three little words” that everyone longs to hear, without that, life can seem like a barren oak in winter. It seems like every valentine’s day all couples go through this dilemma of how best to express their love to one another. We search down the seasonal isle of red plastic wrapped hearts of chocolates, stuffed bears proclaiming your love for all to see, and the beautifully wrapped roses and flowers in a collage of colors sure to please the heart of anyone. Yet, sometimes the gift that is most precious and the hardest to give is as simple as a gentle touch, a warm gesture or just saying “I love you.”

Kahlil Gibran on Love

When love beckons to you, follow him,
Though his ways are hard and steep.
And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
And when he speaks to you believe in him,
Though his voice may shatter your dreams
as the north wind lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
He threshes you to make you naked.
He sifts you to free you from your husks.
He grinds you to whiteness.
He kneads you until you are pliant;
And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast.

All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart.

But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure,
Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor,
Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
For love is sufficient unto love.

When you love you should not say, “God is in my heart,” but rather, “I am in the heart of God.”
And think not you can direct the course of love, for love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.

Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself.
But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
To know the pain of too much tenderness.
To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy;
To return home at eventide with gratitude;
And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
